DIRECTOR'S UPDATE AND REMINDERS:

March 17, 2020

The following update contains information for our Wall of Sound families participating in the Spring Trip to Washington DC – all others may disregard.

Due to the many factors surrounding the current health situation, the decision has been reached to postpone our trip. We cannot offer any alternative dates at this time due to the everchanging nature of these circumstances, however, we are actively exploring different rescheduling options while we continue to monitor the current situation. If you purchased trip insurance, money paid can be refunded – please reach out to Greenlight directly with any refund-related questions at laura@greenlightgrouptours.com.

Please know that the best interest of our Wall of Sound students and families will always remain my top priority in making decisions regarding travel.

Thanks,

Mr. Griffis

STUDENT FUNDRAISING CHAIR
The Fundraising Team is seeking a volunteer to begin now and endeavor throughout the summer and school year 2020-2021 to research and plan potential student fundraisers for our Band Program and to lead the endeavor selected.  No experience necessary!  Just energy, initiative, and a willingness to serve our band students.  Student fundraisers will provide the opportunity for students to fund their personal accounts.  There are currently more opportunities than we have the manpower to address.  If you can help us our in this area, please contact Caroline Goodrich at cgoodric@tampabay.rr.com
GRANT WRITER
The Fundraising Team is seeking a volunteer Grant Writer to begin now and endeavor throughout the summer and school year 2020-2021 to identify potential grant funding for our Band Program and lead the application process.  Experience in grant writing, creative writing, and public relations a plus.  More importantly, energy and a willingness to serve the band through this important Booster initiative is needed.
There are currently more opportunities than we have the manpower to address.  Contact Caroline Goodrich @cgoodric@tampabay.rr.com

COMING TOGETHER.....

Our incredible Sickles TV Production program has created a wonderful documentary following our Wall of Sound students on their jounrey through MPA day back in November. I believe you will agree they have done a phenomenal job capturing this special day - huge thanks to TV Production and their awesome teacher (and band dad!), Mr. Pritchard for this great film! I know this will have us all fired up for Marching Season 2020 just around the corner!

WELCOME MR. MALCOM STEWART!

NOTE FROM MR. GRIFFIS:
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Malcom Stewart to our Sickles Band Family this spring as our Student-Teaching Intern from USF this semester! Mr. Stewart is a senior Music Education student and accomplished Saxophonist at USF – I very much look forward to the opportunity for our students to interact and learn from Mr. Stewart!

NOTE FROM MR. STEWART:
I am a current senior at the University of South Florida where I study Music Education. I studied saxophone with Mrs. Valerie Gillespie and served as a principal player and performer with the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble. In addition to saxophone performances, I served as a member and performed with the Collegiate choir. During my time at USF I also had the opportunity to conduct the Concert band. It has been my pleasure to serve as a camp counselor and co-coordinator for the year round camps & festivals at the university.
I am a Florida native and attended high school in Pasco county. I have had the opportunity to teach private woodwind lessons and work with many local ensembles and now am excited to have the opportunity to intern at Sickles. I look forward to meeting all of you and getting to know you further.
